Foot Piercings, Painful yet Popular

If you have ever used an adjustable ladder you like I know that it is clearly not rocket science, it’s not brain surgery, I think we can all agree that most trained monkeys could pull it off. I was fully convinced of the previous statement regarding the simplicity of a telescoping ladder until today. Many of you know that I work at a climbing gym, the majority of the labor goes into setting routes. It is an easy process of establishing where to place certain hold in order to present a certain level of difficulty. Well we use ladders because it means you get to spend less time in a harness. Our boss who owns our gym was nice enough to go out and buy us a 24’ extension ladder, which we received last Thursday. Today I was watching one of our co-workers set a route, he first asked me how to extend the ladder, this should have been a red flag for his ignorance. He used it for a while and when he was finished he attempted to return it to its original size. First he had the top rung stuck on a climbing hold for about two or three minutes. After I pointed that out he was completely stumped, I showed him he could pull it away from the wall and lower it, he did and lost control of it, one leg came up off the ground falling toward some guests. I grabbed it and stopped it, as I did the pivoting foot that can lay either rubber down for a flat surface, or spiked foot down for dirt or grass turned spikes down as it returned to a flat position on top of my foot. As I looked down I saw a small cut, at a closer glance I realized it was a little deeper than I had originally thought, then I saw the dark blood ooze out and begin to fill my chaco. I walked into the front office to get a band aid out of the First Aid box only to discover that our inventory had been depleted. So I tried to pull the wound shut with a series of smaller band aids. It was not until around an hour latter that I got home and was able to finally clean it out, super glue it, and butterfly it shut. I am attaching some cool pictures so you can see. I know it does not look bad, in fact it does not really hurt that bad, but it is an annoyance either way

Speaking in Stake Conference

Today I awoke to the sweet voice of my wife saying, “You know that phone number I have been rejecting all week, its Brother Reed from the Bishopric he wants to meet with us at 10:15.” My mind shoots through a checklist; Church attendance check, Keeping up on my calling check, Tithes check and so on and so forth. Then it hits me, “Holy crap stake conference is next week and they need us to speak.” I knew that was exactly what they wanted. So as we each showered and I finished getting ready, and Dana put her wet hair up in a bun we walked out on our front porch to the sweet smell of rotting egg. We worked our way down to the car and got in, I don’t know what the deal is with smells this morning, but our car had a very unpleasant smell in it as well. We drove the long .87 miles to our church building, passing three other LDS churches on the way and entered the building. There they sat like the mafia behind a desk with armed guards on either side saying, “Please come in” my heart quickened in pace as I waited to hear how long our talks needed to be. He told us we each needed to talk for 15 minutes, despair. Seriously, but not really. What he ended up really wanting was to call Dana to a new calling which I am so excited about, She has been called to be in the Young Women’s Presidency, I love that we will now be able to go to church activities together, that is not to say that I am a young woman, but I am serving in the Young Men’s Presidency.

Cute Kids

I realized the other day that this school year is actually coming to a close! I can't believe it! Just like every year, I've come to love my kids and I know I'll have a hard time letting them go. But on the other hand, I'm not going to complain about going on summer vacation in about a month! Honestly, what other job lets you have 3 months off-- paid?! I highly recommend a teaching career to all of you! =)

I have a little boy in my class- we'll call him "Ben." Well, this week we were reading a story about a deaf lady who explains that she became deaf after being seriously ill. When we finished the story, "Ben" came & stood right in front of me, in front of the whole class, with a worried look on his face. And with panic in his voice, he asked, "So . . . people can get deaf if they get sick?" I realized how scared he was about this and I assured him that some people do-- but only if they are so so so sick that they're in the hospital and they're close to dying; but that doesn't happen to most people. He looked a little assured, then he asked, "So you don't go deaf by like having the flu?" I told him that that wouldn't happen. He thought for a second more, then still with a concerned voice, he asked, "K, well what about having the tv too loud?" I burst out laughing then as I assured him that he wasn't going to go deaf. So to all the moms that use deafness as a threat for turning down the tv, I'm sorry! I know that the next time "Ben's" mom asks him to turn it down, she might not be too thrilled to find out what his teacher told him. But I couldn't very well leave him there, trembling, believing that he should start learning sign language! With all the trials I've had this year, I will still definitely miss these cute kids!

The Act of Frolfing

Frolf: The act of playing golf with Frisbees. Frolf is also known as Disc golf, “The old Discaroo,” Throwing the rubber, Frolfolicious and last but Dana’s favorite Disc-rimination. Dana is a professional disc-riminator, she has won trophies and stuff. There are few things as enjoyable as taking your chunk of circular rubber and chucking it in the direction of a wiry basket. You have heard the saying, “kill two birds with one stone,” well Dana did, but with a Frisbee, a California condor and a Dodo bird.

We Love Brian's New Job!!

First of all, I want to point out that both Brian and I are contributors to this blog. This way, I won't be disappointing all those of you who are expecting all the funny stories from our lives (that are usually told through Brian's point of view)!

But the point of this blog is to tell everyone that Brian recently quit his job at Performance Design selling swingsets so he could go back to school (at Weber State University). He got a new job managing a climbing gym and indoor surfing gym in Ogden. This was a wonderful switch for many reasons: First, he doesn't have to travel anymore (which I LOVE!) . . . Second, this new job is only a couple miles from the Weber campus . . . And third, Brian absolutely loves rock-climbing and I don't think he will ever get tired of this job!

But I have to say one of my favorite perks (second to the no-traveling thing) is when we get to use the indoor surfing gym! I'll post pics because I'm terrible at explaining how this thing works. But you should know that the first time we did it, we had so much fun that we went for almost 3 hours straight (and got enough bruises to prove it!). For anyone reading this who lives in the area, I highly recommend this activity! I was skeptical, but I love it (and I hardly notice the millions of people watching from the street windows anymore as I make a fool of myself-- it's so worth it!).

The Enraged Cow

Today I stood before a grill of meat and flames, breathing in the smells of the first cook-out of the year. I noticed the grass turning green, the ant hill (which I promptly destroyed), people on the basketball court, a few pesky mosquitoes nipping at my ankles and many other signs that summer was really on its way. As I looked up to admire the sunset, I could not help but notice the farm right next to my house. I saw the sheep wandering aimlessly, the rusty tractor that has not moved since 1982, and then I saw it, pure rage. I saw into the eyes of a cow, looking at me cooking up a juicy rib eye. That cow looked at me and said, “moo mooooo moo moo mooo mmmmmmmmmmmmmmoooooooooo!” For those of you who speak cow, as I do having learned it from a boat load of blind dates with heffers. Anyhow back to the point, you can understand that I was enraged by such an accusation. Allow me to translate, “Brian Nye, You killed my father prepare to die.” The cow went on to give me a sob story about how I would feel sitting in a field with a mouth full of grass, and I look up and see my pappy laying atop an iron bed of flames. Clearly that image was a little upsetting. I told him in my best cow dialect that he could go straight to moo moo moo moo! Then I shot him. So really the point of this blog entry is to invite people over for a nice piece of cow. I have suddenly found myself in possession of a whole lot of it.

Our First Post

Hello Everyone!!!
I thought the day would never come, but here it is! I've FINALLY started a blog! When I first heard the idea, I was appalled that someone would suggest that I blog . . . I didn't have kids! I was certain the purpose of a blog was to show off pics of cute babies & toddlers. But I was corrected and I have to admit I'm quite excited to show off all the cute pics of my hubby & me and to tell all our stories!

cute pic #1

It's cute for several reasons: First, brian's adorable smile! Second, he accidentally put on MY Doxey Elementary t-shirt (that's the school where I work)! Third, the reason he accidentally put mine on is because he thought it was his- he has a Doxey t-shirt and wears it around everywhere- so cute!

This Is Brian Now . . .

I thought since Dana shared that really cute photo of me, I would share this one of her with you. Which happens to be the picture I have on my cell phone so each time she calls I see this really hot picture of her. Woopideedoo, poppycock

cute pic #2

This is Dana again. . . From my first experience with blogging, I have learned a valuable lesson: Don't run your posts past your husband before posting them.
